Alburquerque, New Mexico - free day
Pauls Avanti was running rich last evening, so the day started with a couple of us working on the car. Norris gave Paul a set of spark plugs and helped change the needle valves around. Problem seemed to be solved, but not for long. Paul continued working on the car and many other went to Old Town in ALQ for some sightseeing, etc. In the early afternoon, Ken Boyd, a local Studebaker club guy pulled up behind us and said "you must be Paul Johnson". He was there to help with the running problems. Later that afternoon, Ken returned and led Paul to South Albuquerque where a genuine Studebaker mechanic, Hans Kayser, worked on the car. He rebuilt the carburetor and, when he couldn't get it timed accurately, installed a distributor he had rebuilt for another customer. He didn't charge for the distributor- just asked that Paul send it back when he got home- total charge $100. Paul got back to the motel at 11:40pm Obviously, the altitude here was augmenting some problems that many of us may be living with and consider to be normal operating parameters. |

The plans for that evening were, that we all were to go to Sandia Peak, take the tram to the summit ( 10,000 feet) and have dinner at the High Finance resturant Paul stayed behind, to work on the car. |

Early in the afternoon, Paul Thrush and Bob run down to the local Pep Boys for supplies When we returned from dinner at Sandia Peak, Paul's car was gone. By 11:00PM, he still wasn't back, so we figured it needed a bit more than a tweak Tommorrow, we head west for Williams, AZ and a tour at the Grand Canyon. The mountains should pose a challenge to the cars, but there's plenty confidence.
