Day 4 - 24 April 2003

Lebanon, MO to Tulsa, OK - 275 miles

Lebanon - Springfield - Carthage - Joplin - /Kansas/ Galena - Baxter Springs /Oklahoma/ Miami - Claremore - Tulsa

We woke to a rainy morning in Lebanon. Walked up the road to have breakfast at Faye's Diner.... .2 eggs, sausage, toast, coffee and no heartburn, all for $4.00

Left Monger-Moss Motel, headed SW toward Tulsa, OK. Crept along old Route 66 for a good while, finding many old towns, still thriving with the old trade. Route 66 parallels I-44 and is still used in many places for stop -offs by truckers as well as family types
Paul Thrush left his parking brake on and his wheel started smoking a bit. Frank Fuller noticed the problem and quickly passed Paul to tell him to pull over and fix things.

Made a quick stop in Galena, KS on request from the Ozark Trail Chapter, who met us at the MKT (Missouri-Kansas-Texas) railway museum and held a special opening for us.

Onward to Miami ( pronounced Mi-am-uh), OK, where we where we were invited to dine on the stage of the restored early 20's Coleman Vaudville house. ( yes, mia-muh), OK

The Curator (Ex-Mayor, Red Mathia) gave us a lengthy brief on the interesting history of the building, sang a couple tunes, playing the old organ
    More Pics

Visited Claremore, OK and the Will Rogers Memorial

    Never too many pictures

Back on the road to our destination for day 4 - Tulsa, OK

We arrived in Tulsa around 5:30 in a spitting rain. Nice new motel with welcome laundry facilities. Frank Fuller makes history when his tire picks up a nail and he repairs the puncture without even removing the tire and losing only 2 pounds of air.

A short refresh and we're off to dinner with the Northeast Oklahoma Chapter, SDC at the Spaghetti Warehouse
Many nice cars to see, very pleasant company
