McLean also has a lot of murals painted on buildings pertaining to the old era.

We also stopped at the Phillips 66 Service Station, which is a preserved 1930's model, in a surburban section of McLean. Lunch at the Red River Steakhouse, where your dinner napkins were bandanas (used?).... real cowboys with spurs and brown stuff on their boots...

On to Amarillo, Tx, where we stopped to take a picture of Fay and Frank with the their Lark. The car was originally purchased in Amarillo. Dave selected a famous steakhouse for the photo, where they offer you a free 72 ounce steak, as long as you can eat it in one hour. If not, then you pay dearly

Take a look at this next sequence. We were on the old National Trails mapping, when the road turned from pavement to dirt. Being the adventurous types, we all merrily kept driving down the lane. The road got worse and I started laying back a bit. After a few miles, I still had the lead car in sight when he radioed back that "We've come to a cattle fence". We all turned around and went back to pick up the Interstate. Apparently, this area of road isn't maintained and the state sold the property rights to a rancher, who closed it in...!!.

We' re not kidding about old roads....
