I was also told that Ford number(C1AB-14553-A) also would fit. I don't know what they were used on though. (jtusher@home.com) ---------------------------------------- 1987 Window motors - Updated Nov 2001 Ford type - The window is listed at Discount Auto for both the left and right side. I purchased one in Orlando (only available at 1 store here). The part # was 42-46 for the right motor. Mine came without gears however several sets of gears are also available at Discount Auto. I do not yet have specifics on the gears since I have not taken out the unit. My Avanti is a 1987 The part # is 46-46 $59.00 + deposit ("KEITH PHILDIUS, SR." Sep 2001) Chrysler type - The early 1987 Avanti factory stock window motors are from Chrysler made by United Technologies ElectroSystem . Their # 4336600 (right side for Chrysler goes on the left-driver's side on the Avanti) and # 4336601 ( left side on Chrysler mounts on the right- passenger side on the Avanti). I found this out when I had them replaced and ran a computer check on the numbers off of the old original motors avanti1@webtv.net Nov 2001) -------------- ---------------- 1988 Window motors - Chrysler ( 03 May 99 ) The 88 window motor is Chrysler. Hugh Severs '89 #534 hughsevers@hotmail.com Sep 2001 --------------------------- 1963 - 84 Window Motors From: Jack Usher Date: Thu Apr 13, 2000 They interchange to a Ford(COLF-14553-B),and Bosch(M05810 BA). I took these numbers off mine when I had it out of the door. I found that it was just gummed up with old lubricant and a little cleaning got it. ------------------------------ Lore from the email lists -------------------- cross reference for the power window motors in the 63-64 Avanti (& possibly up to 1985). The FoMoCo part # as you may know is COLF14553-A or B. This is a p/w motor for a 1960 Lincoln (ok, so they're hard to find too!) but the cross reference is to a Motorcraft Part #MM156 which is still being made! Can we get some pricing samples from across the continent on this item - I was quoted $413.66 each by one local Ford dealer. (blrs@netcom.ca) Apr 98 (NOTE: This was researched pretty throoughly by the editor. Found that the Motorcraft company was NOT associated with Ford, just an aftermarket parts manufacturer. The number MM156 was valid, but always came up with NLA when searched for.) You may keep this info for the big swap meets and get lucky... August 2001 The 1963-1974 cars equipped with electric windows use an American Bosch motor with four wires that connect directly to a control switch located on the door. The four wire motors are not readily available. The 1975-1985 cars use an American Bosch motor with two wires that connect to a relay that connects to a control switch located on the console. The two wire motors are available. The window mechanism is common from 1963-1985, and both types of motors mount in a similar fashion. He rebuilds the window motors we use/need. If they work electrically but don't engage and lift window, like one of mine, he will sell the 3 round cylinders, done in polyurethane, rather than nylon, that lock the inner and outer gears together (see Bob Johnstone's site for a great 1999 article from Auto Restorer magazine) . He sells a 13" stick (does 10 motors) for $25. postpaid. Also has high copper content brushes for them for $10/motor set. he can be reached at 770-271-9627. You can send him motors to be rebuilt also. Address is 611 Eva Kennedy Rd, Suwanee, GA 30024. A LOT cheaper than the prices I've been seeing for replacement motors. Thanks , Bob J. for article and lead to him. Dave '78 RQB2670 -------------- Removing a Power Window Motor (1962 - 1984(5?) drill two 1/2 inch holes under the door to get a long screwdriver to the screws. About 1/2 to 1 inch from outside edge, 7 and 5 inches +- from hinge side. Take off door panel and you can see where to drill. 1/2 inch holes (are) over kill. could use smaller holes. screw driver has a lot of flexability with 1/2 inch. drill outside the door seal so no water leaks inside the door jam of course, came out in two seconds. Roland Gagne June 2001 ++++++++++ aftermarket help http://www.progressiveautomotive.com/electric.htm (do it yourself - I've had one individual state that he's working in a Hawk using these kits, but have not ahad a progress report in quite a while rj Nov 2001) --------------------- January 2002 ========== //////////I have the power window motor and regulator out of my 1976 Avanti. I think the motor is too weak to raise the window or I have the spring on backwards. Which way should the spring be ? I have an Avanti parts book but no shop manual . I can not tell by the parts manual which way the spring should be. If it is backwards will it make it hard to raise ? Henry//////// ---------- Yes, hard to raise if it is backwards. The spring should TIGHTEN as the window goes down. -------- Spring should assist the window going up. If it's backwards, it may not go up at all. ------------ adapt chevy junkyard motors to your existing framework, the "scissor" style requires less bottom area then the "belt/ strap" drive type. you use you glass channel and mechanisms with the GM motors and arms, you just mate the two. ocf Aug 2003 ========================= ------------------- RELAY the relay rarely goes bad Look for a white wire under the relay it runs to the strip on the bottom or back as you will see. This is the ground wire it is the most critical wire on your fiberglass car. When yoy hit the window switch it pulls the relay down and the 12 V. goes to the window motor if the ground is bad the relay will not stay in.There is also a fuse under the relay there is a black 12 g. wire going from the starter relay to the fuse then there is a 10 g. wire from the fuse to the relay sometimes the fuse is bad but but not enough to pass voltage with no load on the circuit, check your voltages with someone hitting the switch and see what happens to your voltages.
