Mopar Fuel pump conversion - July 2001 a new Carter street pump (6902), ordered from the Summit Racing online catalog. It is for small block MOPARS but the only difference from the 289 Stude pump is the angle of the last bend of the pump arm. I measured the Stude angle to the exact degree, made a template, and then heated and bent the MOPAR arm. This pump and its racing counterpart (6970) can even be adapted to R-2 use. Stan Gundry, Author/Publisher ---------- Ed note: You have to be pretty precise on this, as any slight miscalculation on the bend can reduce the fuel pressure output and cause problems in roadability ----------------------------------- Oil Leaks around the fuel pump, pivot pin---- Only Carter pumps are sealed with a special cap on the end of this pivot pin. The cap keeps the oil from leaking out. Other brand pumps work, but the pivot pin holes are open on both sides, and will leak. The cheaper Airtex brand pumps seem to be worst at leaking. Sep 2001) Most likely you will have to replace the fuel pump. The steel pivot pin wears the holes cast zinc housing into an egg-shape. Every revolution of the cam moves the pin up and down in the housing. There is no cure for the leakage other than to rebuild the pump with a larger pin. jackv@studentambassadors.org Sep 2001) ---------------------------- I once got a mid 60's shevy 230 6 cyl fuel pump to work on my 59 lark. Press out the pin that holds the arm on the shevy, then remove the arm from your old stude and put it on the new one then press the pin back in. I had a 2 barrel, don't know if it will work on a 4 barrel. johnbelder@aol.com (John Belder) Jan 02 ------------ No one has NOS fuel pumps anymore, and rebuild kits are hard to find too. Some fuel pump rebuild kits are also old NOS and the rubber in them is now old and won't last as long. The New fuel pumps that most of the Studebaker vendors sell now are indeed, new Carter Performance fuel pumps for a small block Chrysler (273-318-340 engines). Before these Stude vendors sell us the NEW Carter pump, they do the work first, to bend the arm. It is very easy to do this, and you save money by ordering the pump from your local parts store too.. lew
