Sep 2005 ----------------------------------- Avanti II ( 76?- 84) Dash Lights / Console lights ---------------------------------- Left turn signal / Hi-Beam / right turn signal above steering column is the 'Choke On' light On the consol the driver side indicator is the rear window defrost, the center button is the seat belt reminder, the passenger side light is the driving/fog light. Choke heater light is powered by two separate circuits. First from the fuse panel when the igniton is on but the engine is NOT running. Light ON shows power to the choke heater. The second circuit is through the alternator sensor. When the engine is running the choke is still getting power but this second circuit applies power to the other side of the indicator light thus canceling out the power from the first circuit and the light goes OFF. The indicator performs two tasks... first it shows power going to the choke and when the engine is running the indicator by turning OFF indicates that it is getting power from the alternator so it shows that the alternator is charging. JohnA -------------------- One other note, on some cars equiped with electronic oil pressure gages the second circuit comes from the oil pressure gage (my 1984 El Camino). Actually the second circuit can come from any source that operates only after the engine is running. This way the choke heater light can be used to monitor any accessory that is ON only when the engine is running. If the light turns OFF after the engine starts the accessory is functioning. JohnA
