Reprinted from Turning Wheels Nov 79 Reprinted from the April 77 Washington Dictator If you're tired of pouring so much gas through your Lark or Hawk, with a Carter AFB carburator, try some leaner metering rods and jets.. They'll cost you less than $6.00 (1979), so you can afford to try them. I've been experimenting with some different combinations and have found some so lean that they put the needle on my exhaust analyzer over to the lean side of the meter. The combination that works best and seems to be the most readily available is: Metering rod - Carter part # 16-544 Primary jets - Carter part #120-392 Secondary jets - Carter part #120-377 If you find these too lean, then try the same jets with the stock metering rods #16-99 I've found that the #16-544 metering rods work fine on trips and in the summertime, but they are a little lean for every day driving . The engine seems to hesitate at low speeds and gasps a little when you accelerate hard. I've gotten over 20 MPG with my Lark and an overall average of around 16 MPG Ingvar Vik
