///////////at first it shutters like a grabbing clutch would, and when fully warmed up it stops shuttering and shifts fine.////// Drain the fluid and drop the pan. Try adjusting the front band servo. It has been a while since I did one, but I found a blue Motor's Manual and used the torque intructions found there. For the 1/4 spacer block, I used an allen wrench. The factory manual uses over-running tools to set band torque, so not much help for the do it yourselfers. The rear band is on the outside of the case. A removable plate on the passenger side floor hump gives access to that. Might as well do both. The pan gasket is the same as a Ford FMX. The metal screen you can back-flush. Check for loose screws and bolts, while you have the pan down. Look for big chunks in the pan. Some fine powder is typical. The front servo is easy to replace, if it comes to that. A weak front pump is not. ------------------------- Just needs new seals. They have gotten hard from age, most likely, and are just not pliable enough when cold to hold pressure. Sounds like the rest of the trans is in good shape tho. My '62 ragtop has done the same thing for six years and I just put up with it =============== I aske a sage genius mechanic as to the cause of my problem. He said the lip seals on the clutch packs were hard. The cure??He handed me a bottle of"stuff" said "pour it in,drive around for an hour or so,use all gears."It worked, the trans is fine, even cold now and has been great for a month now, works when cold, crank it,drive away.I drove 200 miles in the last 2 weekends.I will get the name of this "stuff" tomorrow,it was 8 dollars for a 4 ounce bottle- the old timer does transmissions, and swears by it,not at it.------------------------------- was it "Lube Guard" in a red bottle?? that stuff works wonders. ------------------- Buy the big can of Trans-X and put it in and run it for a couple of hours once it is heated up even if it is just up and down the driveway. Let it cool for a few hours and see if there is any improvement (there should). If it now works ok, drain the fluid and replace with fresh Dextron of Type F and add a bottle of LubeGuard and you will be good to go. ============
