I have owned a mint 64 R2 serial number 4574, (my defination of a car as nice as it could be having been driven only 46,000 miles) since May 12, 1968 (a date celebrated at our house). As you can guess the Avanti is the ultimate automobile as far as I am concerned. A year ago an on-line auction was held and I bid on what was described as an Avanti with a stripped body for a friend who didn't do computers. At the last minute after winning the bid he decided he didn't have enough money so I got stuck with it since my name was on the bid. Here is what I got. Although it looked like "a car", in fact it was: A supercharged Studebaker Avanti frame in excellent condition complete with power steering serial number 63R 1107 A different supercharged Studebaker Avanti decent stripped body serial number RQ 2769 When I was standing by my "forced purchase" pondering how I got into the situation a guy came along and asked me if I had any glass for the car. When I said no, he said he had a parts Avanti II with all the glass except the windshield. Although he lived next the the Canadian boarder and I live in southern Idaho he volunteered to haul the parts car to my place when on a trip to Arizona to visit a relative. I paid him what he wanted for the car and $400 to haul it to my place. It is a 1982 Studebaker framed Avanti II in shabby condition. Came from Maryland and has rusted through frame problems. Serial number.......3342. No engines or transmissions but since I think Studebaker Avantis are so special I advertised what I had hoping someone would buy everything and create their own. I have titles for 2 Avantis. The verification of the frame and body being supercharged models came from the SDC information source. The body still has the supercharged external emblems. Two sets of photos being sent. Best regards, Clell G. Ballard' Fairfield, Idaho
