Apr 2007 Radiator repair discussion -------------------------------- Radiator Notes by Wayne Lee With the help of Joe, a sympathetic radiator repair man at Robins Radiator Repair in Warner Robins, GA., I'd like to offer the following info: My '62 Lark needed a new radiator. Prices averaged around $200 for a new 2-row core, and more for 3-row core. Add $200 more if OEM type tanks are needed. This is because the bottom of the top tank (where the core fits in) is rounded -- unlike today's flat bottom tanks. The best deal for a new core was found at Universal in Tampa, FL. The part # is CT6329A. This is a two row core with 1/2 inch wide tubes of .005 wall thickness. This is .002 thicker than the tubes on more modern day units. It also has a higher cooling fin count per inch for greater cooling efficiency. This unit is guaranteed to cool up to 400 cubic inches. The spec book calls for the same part number for Hawks! My out the door price for this core - soldered to salvaged top and bottom tanks was $159.25 + tax. This includes the 3 hrs labor it took Joe to assemble and test the radiator. He said these were the best fitting parts he's seen in a long time. Subsequent road testing has proved this core works as advertised. dwcars@bellsouth.net ================================== the cheapest way to go is from Midwest motor sports they have a Northern Raidator Aluminum 19" X 24" for $149 just make a couple of alum. brackets and weld on for less than $200 you can have one better than the one on e-bay dwcars@bellsouth.net ----------------------------------- I believe that there is absolutely no difference between a late V-8 Lark radiator and a late V-8 Hawk radiator, save for the little tab of metal that is screwed to the top tank for a "fan guard" on the Larks. nate -----------------------------------
