Day 3 - 23 April 2003

Haubstadt, IN to Lebanon, MO - 320 miles

Haubstadt, IN via I-64 west - /Missouri/ - St Louis (Route 66) - Pacifac - Stanton - Lebanon

Morning found us with a squeaky generator bearing on Bobs 55 President, which was handily oiled a bit and all was ok Left Haubstadt, IN around 8AM, toward St. Louis, where we intercept Route 66. Threaded our way through the St. Louis traffic (Yes, like downtown DC). Picked up Historic Route 66 right in the middle of it all and first stopped at at Ted Drewes for a well deserved fruit custard. Left SW-bound to the Route 66 National Park and then to the Red Cedar Inn for Lunch. The Park reception area was closed for renovations and the Red Cedar Inn was closed for the season, so we opted for the best available.....Monroe's Route 66 diner, in Pacific, MO Departed the area for a few other coloquial stops, one of which was the Jesse James Museum.

We stopped at the Jesse James Museum in Stanton, but it was also not yet open.

Spent a little time in Stanton and then left toward Lebanon, MO. Not long after departure, Norris top radiator hose let loose and dumped all the water. A few minutes of refit/refill and we were back on the road. Around 6PM, in a spitting rain and with a throng of SW Missouri's finest Studebaker Club Members awaiting us, we arrived at the Munger-Moss Motel.



A quick check-in was a pleasant surprise since Dave had placed everything in his name earlier. We all unwound in our rooms, each of which was decorated in a separate motif on Route66. The Merhauts were treated to the 'Route 66 Room', which they reported, was quite a delight

Bob had to crawl under the Pres for quick analysis of a noise heard earlier. A brief deliberation and the therapy for that night (and the balance of the trip) was to grease the rear universal every evening. We all went to dinner and later on we hosted a hospitality room for everyone. One greeter I spoke with was elderly Lester Smith, who showed of his fine example of a 1957 Trans-star with many options. We parted company around 9PM and all headed for our rooms to get some rest. The light splatter on the window, gave the right amount of 'white noise' to get into a sound sleep....
