Sorry to bother everyone, but I lost Pete Kings E-mail address. Pete, I took your advice and played with the fan speed, the pinging does increase in speed as I turn the fan higher. I borrowed a stethoscope, and drove around in the rain yesterday with the nurse that came with it. (I know that sound funny, but she's my niece). The noise travels up the left and right sides of the windshield so probably comes from the sunroof weep hole tubing. I had the weep holes cleaned out last month, but maybe we poked a hole in them. I really doubt that because we were so careful. Now what should I do. Could there be an air leak from the defroster up into the tubing. How could there possibly be a connection. Does anyone know the construction layout of the tubing, and have any advice. I know this is not as exciting as replacing an engine, but it is driving me nuts. --------------------------------- My 89 coupe has had the fan blower motor and cage replaced every heating season. The cage breaks under the normal vibration of the motor and road use. The cage is plastic. My mechanic says it is always a bear to replace, but after so many years of replacement...he is getting better at it. Bob ex-of AAC only laughed every time I use to call him for replacement parts. I finally used up his supply. Last year, I found a specialist in car heating and ac, he recognized the replacement part as a Chrysler van product... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Might be a loose fan blade in the heater motor...maybe it wobbles more the higher the speed. KimM -------------------------------- There is a possibility that your ping is coming from the fan cage hitting againist the side of the housing. Had this problem with my 88 --------------------------------- I have replace the cage and housing in my 88 also. I have the name and number for the original manufacture of the unit. Also have the part numbers so you can order them if needed. I think when I ordered the cost for both units was around $30 dollars. If interested let me know and I will post the numbers. --------------------------------- I replaced the heater motor but I'm less than satisfied right now with the volume of air being pushed through the system. I'm using flexible hose to connect the heater case to the defrosters but I think I'm losing some force because the hoses have to drape themselves around the wiper arms under the dash. Is anyone using a semi-rigid hose such as a pre-warmer hose for an air cleaner? --------------------------------- Please post the numbers for the rest of us. --------------------------------- Most of the heat/cool controls for that year were Chrysler from the mid = '80s. I'm not surprised that the other end is also. There were a few = posts recently and back to last year about the dash controls and cable = problems. The slide switch with the buttons on the dash, you can find = on a K-cars from that vintage. The high end 'K' cars' (oxymoron?) had = the ones with the chrome buttons as used on the Avantis. I tried to retro = fit one of these units to me car and gave up. I can imagine the factory = installer had a few beers after doing these. When I purchased a 'new' = control from 'AAC - Bob', he charged me $100.00. The week after I = received it, I found a lot of them in salvage yards for around $5.00, = c'est la vie! ...........Bob Johnstone --------------------------------- Sorry to butt in here again about the 'Chrysler' heat/cool stuff, = but more lessons learned from my car's renovation. My A/C unit was replaced with one that has a hot water circuit for = defrosting the windshield. The front face of the unit wasn't compatable = with the existing Avanti setup and I wound up using 4 lengths of 2 inch = 'flex hose'. The shape of the hose is supported with a spring wound = around inside. I know the '87s and up had to have this stuff inside = also. Problem here is that unless you stretch that ducting almost to it;s = limit in connecting point A to B, the slack tension on that support = spring will cause so many ridges in the interior, that it will cause = turbulence and restrict the flow to almost nothing. Ask any heating and = airconditioning specialist ( car or house)... ..../Bob Johnstone =20 --------------------------------- Exactly Bob... I guess the solution is to find some pre-warm duct for an air cleaner and stretch it out to fit with the right bends in the right places. --------------------------------- ACME Radiator & Air Conditioning, Goshen, IN, 46528, phone 913-371-5373 #4100002 - PE2 High Heat Black Blower Wheel #4100219 - OF2 Motor Mount 836 #4100221 - OE2 Blower Housing 847-1 This is the original supplier and if you tell them it is for an Avanti, they are very helpful. --------------------------------- June 2009 The control head is from a Chrysler.
