I still have the orginal steel rims on my 63 champ and have converted my Studebaker optional 710X15 tires to radial eqivilant. Is there is source were I can buy new steel wheels that will simply bolt on and take the new radials.

Lots of Chevy truck wheels fit.

Some Chevy VAN wheels will fit but the common Chevy truck wheels will not sit flat because of the ridged brake drums used on Stude 1/2 tons.
Go to Studebaker truck talk and do a search. Select the match to subject rather than date.

My drums and brake have just been replaced, I was hoping for somethng as simple as buying new rims that take radials and would fit my 63 champ. Any other suggestions?

My brother has Chevy wheels on his trucks. I'll get some details and get back to you.

I make and sell 1/9 inch thick spacers that go between the rim and the hub. This allows the wheel to bolt up solid to the hub in spite of the raised ridge.
Thanks and best regards.

The wheels shown here came on various Chevy/GMC trucks and fit without spacers. The brakes on this truck are 63 Champ just like yours. If you want to run wheel covers you could probably use the regular wheels from the same period. These and a later version are common at all make auto swap meets around here. $15-$50 each depending on condition, whether they have the rings and centers, etc. The centers are often available separately and the Studebaker stickers were bought from an SDC vendor.
The spacers also work. Joe used them with white spoke wheels on his previous 59 Scotsman by using longer wheel studs. If you pick a wheel that you think might work, put a lump of clay on the drum and attach the wheel. If there was a gap the clay will not be completely compressed.

I would like to do the same thing as blondie to my 64 Champ. I would like to keep the Stude dog dish centers. Will they fit on a GM steel wheel. I understand that 89 van wheels will fit the truck. I'd like to switch to radials because of the amount of time I'm spending on the freeway lately. The rain grooves in the pavement seem to pull the truck around on those bias plys. Thanks for any input.
