Hi I am having some problems with the trunk release on my 77 Avanti II. The remote switch and the solenoid work fine, but i guess the latch is siezed up. I played around with it and got it to latch (it used to always be open). Now I can't open it. Any tips on opening? I guess I will just have to stick my head in the backseat opening with a flashlight and a screwdriver...Anyone know of a source for a new latch assembly? I would like to just replace the old one thanks gabe ______________________________ Gabe, I doubt if my '63 latch is anything like your '77. Same thing happened to mine. I took it out, cleaned it, lubraplated it and put reinstalled it. You might try WD-40 or equivalent and work it in for several days before purchasing a new one. Hope this helps, Avanti. Jim Frakes ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Gabe, I found this info in an old newsletter from the Avanti Club Of Florida. Maybe it will be of some help to you. 1. Select a suitable length screwdriver or rod about 24" long and a flashlight. 2. Remove the rear seat shelf cover trunk access door. 3. Working through the hole in the rear seat shelf, focus the flashlight on the carpeting over the trunk lock and locate the hole in the carpet and lock assembly. 4. Insert the screwdriver with the flat of the blade vertical through the hole in the carpeting and all the way into the lock and hold it there. 5. Use both hands on the screwdriver and exert an upward pressure on the end of the blade. then slowly withdraw the screwdriver from the lock until the lock mechanism releases. 6. Replace the rear seat shelf cover trunk access door. Tim, RQB 2998 --------------------------------
