Power Steering Pump_ I think we just hashed over this 2 months ago. You rebuild if it leaks or doesn't work. They use an Eaton roller pump. Ford and AMC used them also. I just got one off a '64 Ford and it works fine. On some the reservoir is mounted inside the fender. The pump is still the same. I would rather buy a good used pump for $35 than a rebuilt for $119. Check your parts houses. Some rebuild companies offer them for $85. ----------------- Yes Alex, same as Ford used. In fact, if you find the right Ford, you can get a nifty resevoir lid that has a dipstick incorporated. Of course, with the way the oldies are disappearing from the local yards - good luck! -------------------- It doesn't leak and seems to work fine but sometimes it is noisy. My son says Ford pumps are often noisy? Also, I just noticed that the fluid seems to look a bit like metallic paint so there must be some wear going on. I read in another group that Mobil 1 trans fluid would quiet down a Ford pump. Has anyone tried it on a Stude? Alex M ------------------------- Never tried different fluid. Depends on what the noise sounds like. You can get a buzzing noise from the pressure regulator valve or if there is air in the system. If it's grinding, you'll be replacing it. Mine was grinding against the castings on each side of the rotor. Never made any tell-tale noises. It just quit working. Change the fluid in the reservoir about 3 times. Maybe the fluid is thinned out. You can go through a flushing procedure, but that takes a lot more fluid. ++++++++++++++++++++++
