Converting Prestolite Alternator to GM single wire (Doug Crall Dec 2000) --------------------------------------- 1. Disconnect the battery cable 2. Remove your Prestolite regulator from the car 3. Install a screw type terminal strip in the place of the original regulator. Chose a terminal strip with # 8 or larger screws and for at least4 circuits. 4. Connect the 2 smaller wires to terminals 1 & 2. This will isolate them as they are no longer neccessary. 5. Connect the 2 larger wires to terminals 3 & 4 these need to be connected together through a fuse or circuit breaker. I would recommend no larger than 35 amps due to the cars wiring harness. 6. Remove Prestolite alternator, install new alternator and connect the larger wire to the alternator output terminal. Connect the ground wire if possible, disregard 3rd wire. 7. Reconnect the battery cable.
