/////will it be OK for me to seal the lacquer and spray Chromabase over it, or do I need to remove all of the lacquer first?////////// ------------ Ron, 1) Scuff the laquer with 180 grit using your random orbital sander (DA) don't go crazy and try not to break through the paint everywhere. This will create edges that may "lift" 2) Seal it with 2 medium-wet coats of EPOXY primer (as used for bare metal) (PPG Dp-50) This will act as a "barrier coat" so the urethane solvents do not attack the laquer. 3) since the panel is nice and smooth, without featheredges or rock chips, you can apply 2 medium coats of a high-build epoxy primer-surfacer- find some in a "buff" color. let dry overnight 4) spray on your (black) laquer "guide coat" primer 5) dry-block with 320 grit sandpaper 6) follow that up with watersanding the panels with #400 or #600 wet-or-dry paper 7) Use a pre-paint SEALER- some are made in a light color- so try to find one that the yellow will cover easily (IE: don't use dark grey or red oxide color) 8) Finish coat: 3 coats color (minimum) 3-coats clear(minimum) I like to do a light dust/edges coat to cover the edges well, then a light dust coat on the entire panel- to get it real sticky. This is followed within 1/2 of the normal wait-time between coats (10 mins or so) with a medium wet coat of the whole panel. Then 2- more wet coats to finish. Ray ---
