IGNITION - 63 64 Avanti (under construction) HEI (GM Ignition system, including Distributor housing) - Est $350.00 - Manufactured by Dave LeVesque, SteelTech Solutions, Marion, IL, djlevesque@webtv.net Jul 01 Pertronix Ignition - We have a PerTronix Ignitor that fits inside the R 1 Distributor to take the place of the points and condensor. It has nothing to do with HEI and there is no outside box, etc. to mount. (Just to be sure, you have to have the DUAL point R distributor as it will NOT fit the single point Prestolite. We do have them for the Stude Delco V8 12 volt distributors also. The address to order is: 18994N 125E, Summitville, IN 46070.) Ted Harbit tedharbit@aol.com Jul 01 -------- Could be (but) a Prestolite with reworked weights, bushings, etc. or a Stude Delco Window or Stude non window Delco with a PerTronix would be cheaper and just as good or better. Ted ---------- 66 - 72 Avanti II - HEI Install Easy swap. (Nothing Pertronix needed.) The most reliable and painfree would be to purchase a new distributor from a notable aftermarket vendor ( Summit, MSD, etc). Drop it off at your local speed shop for a timing curve check, then drop it in your car. Remove (cut) the existing +12 thermistor wire from your harness, ( Its the 'pank' one whose resistance increases as it warms up) . HEI uses a full 12 volts all the time, so you splice your supply into a switched 12 volt circuit or create a separate fused one. There are tabs in the DS of the cap to connect your +12 and your tachometer. After that, you'll need a different timing light ( one for solid state systems) and remember NEVER to run the engine with any plug wires removed or you'll toast the module under the cap. Bob Johnstone Jul 01 rjohnsto@gsdi.org ------------ PerTronix just came out with a complete distributor that gives more spark than you would ever need. Got one for a fellow's Olds drag car and works excellent. Cost is about $190. Ted Harbit Jul 01 tedharbit@aol.com ------
