From Blackhawk Chapter- Headliner installation really is not that hard. If you have a shop manual, it tells you how to remove and replace the glass and the rest is easy. Remove the old adhesive in the front and the back. Install the bows in the same manner and order they were removed from the old cloth. On a GT, you don't need to remove the front windshield, just the black metal trim around the inside of it. Use 3M AFast Tack Trim Adhesive@ to attach it to the metal header area above the windshield gasket Let it set up for a few minutes [the black metal trim will cover the glued area] and install the bows in the hole in the body, stretch the headliner fairly tight, and adhere it to the metal channel that the glass sits against on the outside [it is the same place the old headliner was glued]. Tuck the headliner into the channel above the door, making sure the headliner hangs up on the little saw-toothed metal tangs. If you develop wrinkles, heat the area with a hair dryer, and restretch onto the tangs. If you still have wrinkles, you can pull the headliner away from the rear window area, clean off the adhesive, put some more AFast Tack@ on, and reattach. After it is tight and you have the wrinkles out, pull it tight onto the C pillar panels and adhere. It is not hard to do a good looking job. Install your windlace and rear window. If you are worried about doing the rear window, take the car to a glass shop and have them remove it. BONUS - MATCHING PAINT by John Poulos from the Web News Group, SDC Internet chapter Want a modern paint number? Call (800) 3DUPONT and give them the year and color and they'll give you a modern paint number. ----------------------- 1) Remove windshield and rear window, and door windlace. 2) Install bows into headliner. 3) Make sure that the middle bow(s) are basically straight up and headlliner is tight to each other. 4) Glue the front edge the same way that the old one was done. (Use ONLY 3M SUPER Trim Adhesive). Allow to sit for a couple of hours. 4) Stretch the headliner from front to rear and glue it the same way as the windshield openning. 5) Re-install the windshield and rear window. 6) Stretch the headlinere down to the clips, (them thar' pointy thangs), on each side Be patient, it can be done. The hardest part of this job is re-installing rear windows on earlier C/K early sedans... -- Regards, JT (Residing in Austin, Texas) JETman jetassoc@worldnet.att.net Jan 2002
