McNey Motors (From Ancestry.com) (James) Francis McNey, was a successful business man, having owned McNey Motors, the Rolls Royce/ Mercedes Benz dealership in Bethesda, Maryland for many years. The original family name was McNaney or McNeaney) but the great-grandfather and his older sons decided that McNey was better for business and began using McNey a little before 1900. However, I don't think that they officially changed it since any legal papers like birth certicates, death certificates, and divorce papers in the 1920s use McNaney, not McNey. Now EuroMotorcars; When Günther Wiesenthal, the Mercedes-Benz distributor for Vienna and a board member of Daimler-Benz, came to the U.S. to become the first president of Mercedes-Benz of North America, there was only one Mercedes-Benz dealership in the country. When he left, there were 450. One of those dealerships was McNey Motors in Bethesda, MD. Twenty-four years later the Wiesenthal Group, led by Günther’s daughter, Susanne Sulke-Wiesenthal, purchased it. EuroMotorcars was born.
