Mr Johnstone: Reference Studebaker dealers in North Carolina: one dealer overlooked is Candor Motor CO in Candor NC (in Montgomery County near Pinehurst NC). My father owned a 1952 Studebaker truck sold new there. The dealership was housed in a red brick building with a show room on the first floor and an apartment on the second floor, service department garage attached behind. The building still stands although it appears not in use. Perhaps built right after WW II although I'm guessing. The dealership sold Dodge until about 1981 or 1982. No idea if that came after Studebaker went out of business or if the two makes were ever dualed. Candor is a small town population 840 that would never have had a city directory. Even as a small town, Candor also had a Ford dealer, pre-WW II type building still standing. I remember seeing it open as a Ford dealrer in 1964, don't know how long after that before it went out of business. Respectfully yours, Dennis Ward (Addendum 30 May 2013) ......... found today that there is a dealer listed as Candor Motor Company. However a year or so ago a guy from Candor that I see every year at a car show in Carolina Beach (he doesn't drive a Studebaker) told me that his dad and uncle(s) owned a Studebaker dealer in Candor. It was called the Fox Garage. It was also an International Harvester dealer........... The building that housed the Fox Garage still stands and is now a Mexican market. Some of our chapter members parked our Studebaker in front of the store and took pictures last year. Joe Roberts
