1963 Studebaker Avanti R1
project car with 2 engines. I purchased this car in December 2005 and
have not gotten around to restoring it. I have a copy of the build
sheet and all numbers match. The original engine was removed by the
last owner to rebuild (it is on an engine stand in my shop) and a
replacement 289 was installed in the car (you can rebuild the original
R1 and sell the replacement engine). This is a Calfornia black license
plate Avanti originally shipped to Carmichael, Ca. in January 1963. The
letter "A" was added to the VIN for California (Ca. required 8 digits
for VINs in 1963; this "A" appears on the VIN plate, and also the
title). The car need a complete restoration. The hog troughs are in
good shape, the body need repair in the usual Avanti seam areas and
there are two areas where the fiberglass needs repair (the passenger
side driving light was knocked in/I have that piece in the
trunk and there is a crack on the trunk lid). It has tangerine
interior, A/T, P/S, A/C and power windows. The installed
engine has an Edlebrock carb (probably a 1406) and the air cleaner
has been rechromed (the picture of the engine shows an after
market air cleaner that can be either thrown away or cleaned-up for
another project). If you would like a copy of the build sheet I

great template and can easily restored to be a 400 point car. I have
some parts already rechromed (badges and air cleaner).
