Now and again a car comes along
with classic design, American power, and genuine enthusiastic love and care
throughout its life. This 1969 Studebaker Avanti II is that car. The Avanti II was built at a time when in the downfall of the original Studebaker company the classic Raymond Loewy design was essentially saved, and extended in an additional run of well built fiberglass dream machines. The Avanti II is a classic in every sense, its pedigree is that of a custom built sports car, build quality was exceptional, and the materials used were the best around. The previous owner of this Avanti
II was an enthusiastic Studebaker collector and had the car several years.
During this time, he had the brakes rebuilt, installed new exhaust front to
back, installed a new air compressor, as well as sorted out any lingering issues. I would describe this Avanti as a fully sorted example that's ready for the road. We've had it since Summer and have enjoyed driving it any time we took it out. This week
I drove it several days, as much as an two hours straight, and it performed flawlessly. This is one of the last 327 Chevy Avanti II's made in 1969.
The
bright red paint is glossy and is very well presented.
Someone has obviously cared for the car.
There is some light fading
and
flatness, as red is
prone to, but overall it looks good.
There is also one scratch in the
pictures on the passenger's side towards
the nose
and
a
couple
minor
fiberglass
repairs.
All chrome is brilliant, all rubber
soft, there is no cracking on any
exterior surface. Obviously, being
a fiberglass car there is no rust and
the typical excellent Avanti workmanship
is evident. Panels all fit well,
the doors open and close tightly with no
sagging. Glass is clear and the
chrome wheels look great. We will
include the original hubcaps with the
car.
The interior of this
Avanti shows very well. One of my
favorite color combinations is the
contrast of the bright red exterior with
the black interior. It is a great
looking combination. All seating
surfaces are clean
and
comfortable.
There is some separation on the
top
of
the back
seat under the rear window
and
one
small
repair
to
the
driver's
seat.
The
black
carpets,
AVANTI
mats,
and
vinyl
wrapped
dash
round
out
a
great
looking
interior.
As nice
as this car
is to look at, the real pleasure is in the way it drives. This Avanti
is fast and
very responsive. It is powered by a Chevy 327 and it delivers
great power.
We've found nothing out of sorts on this Avanti II, it delivers every time we
crank her up. It does not overheat even on hot summer days and the air
conditioning is working to keep you cool. It handles, brakes, and
accelerates as it should -- with authority. Brakes, exhaust, and air
conditioning were refurbished in the past two years. It looks like many
other items were replaced under the hood as well with an eye towards performance
and reliability. We have noticed that the fuel gauge is not working nor is
the passenger window. The window was working as of last week and I just
haven't had a chance to look into why it stopped. Your new Avanti comes
complete with a matched set of like new tires.
I must admit, I am the
worst when
it comes to building a car up in my mind, reading all of the Road
& Tracks from
the 60's and 70's, finding what looks like a perfect car and when I drive them I am utterly disappointed at
the way they perform. Usually because key components that made them drive well,
have not been taken care of, sure they run and stop, but just aren't
fun to have
on the road. This Avanti II does not disappoint, in fact I think
this is where the
infatuation comes from, so rare is an opportunity to drive a car 40 years old
that looks, feels, drives, smells, responds, and rewards its driver like this
one does.
This Avanti II is special: the
color, fit, finish, make it an investment car you can drive and feel
great about, with perhaps a careful detail this car will be good
enough to win your
local car show. Everyone who has been by and seen the car
wants it, no one can keep from turning their head to look at it parked in the
drive or rolling down neighborhood streets. This is a car that is a classic of
American industrial design, and of the good ole days when Studebaker was
America's premier custom coach builder. We obtained this Avanti
II from an
avid collector here in Atlanta. This car has been babied from day one and we
really want it to go to a good home ( A garage is a must!). If you're
looking for a completely sorted Avanti II with no stories and nothing to do
except add fuel, this is the one for you. This car is being sold Bill of
Sale only, as Georgia does not issue titles for cars over twenty years old. We do have a copy
of the last GA registration.
Of course, this is a NO
RESERVE auction with no games
so you set the price, please
be prepared to purchase the vehicle once you win. Please bid with
confidence, and email us to inspect the car in person. We are happy to
answer any questions about it. Note to GA residents, sales tax will be
applied to the purchase price.

INSPECTIONS: This item is described to the best of the my ability, however I am
not a mechanic. Some items have worn in the past 1-20+ years. I will help the buyer with arranging any desired inspections, but all costs for PPI (pre purchase inspections) are the buyer's responsibility. All PPIs must be performed before the auction ends.
NO RESERVE, PRIVATE AUCTION: I am a firm believer in free market pricing, and as such, I am confident this vehicle will bring a market correct price on eBay. I also believe when a person bids no reserve they aren't trying to beat an inflated 'retail' price, and they get their vehicle at a real value. It's worth what is paid. A word on bid retractions, I am blocking those who retract their bids from continuing to bid on an item.
KEYS and ACCESSORIES: Since these vehicles are used, please remember that books, extra keys, remote entry keys, CD cartridges, etc...do not always remain with vehicles throughout their life. We will not be responsible for these minor accessories. These items are all replaceable at any local factory dealer or electronic store.
ADMINISTRATIVE FEE: A $95 administrative fee is added to all transactions, included in this cost are all paperwork and 30 day tags. Buyers outside of Georgia pay the final auction price + the $95 fee. Buyers in Georgia pay the final auction price + $95 + applicable sales tax.
NOTE TO CANADIAN
BUYERS: Do what your friends are doing, buy a car in the US! We're sending a
car a week to Canada these days, and have sent hundreds to our friends up North
over the years. Bottom line, it's easy to get your new car over the border, and
we know exactly how to make everything go smoothly.
I reserve the right to end any auction for any reason at any time.
