1967 RQA-0145

Up for auction is a 1967 Avanti II with 72,000 original miles. It has always been garage kept. The VIN # is RQ-A0145. I am selling this vehicle for a friend of my father's. He has decided to offer it for sale after owning it for 40 years. This car was special ordered from the Avanti Motor Corporation in 1966. The vehicle was originally designated a 1966 model and was then changed to a 1967 model before delivery as can be evidenced by the original bill of sale that you can see in the photo below. He took delivery of the car in South Bend, Indiana in November of 1966. The original bill of sale lists all of the options selected for this car and the final price of $7390.00! A lot of money in 1967. The vehicle is in very good original condition. The vinyl interior exhibits very little wear after 40 years the dash is not cracked. The car was repainted in the early 1980's and in is good condition. An aftermarket sunroof was added at some point and the paint on the chrome frame of the sunroof is flaking off. Looks as if it would be easy to pick the paint off of the frame and leave it chrome without having to repaint. The only other flaw in the paint is a crack on the top of the right front fender that is shown in a photo below. The engine is not the original. In 1991, the mechanic he had been using told him the only way to get the engine to stop pinging with the crappy fuel of that time was to change the engine, so that is what they did. The original 327/ 300 horse engine was pulled and a new Goodwrench 350 engine was installed. The Goodwrench warranty book provided with the engine shows an install date of 1/11/1991 at the mileage of 68,907. The mileage is now 72,948. Only 4041 miles in 15 1/2 years! The original clock does not work and the tachometer sometimes sticks. Also, I don't think the tach is entirely accurate. The expansion tank was found to have a leak recently and as you can see in one of the photos, it has been soldered by a radiator shop. In one of the photos you can see one of the A/C hoses is off of the compressor. The A/C had been working until the hose developed a leak and the old one was removed to have a replacement made. The owner assures me the A/C will again be functional for the new owner. Those are the only things I know of that are negatives. On the plus side, the original documentation is fantastic, including the original bill of sale with all options, the original factory service and parts manuals, the key knockouts with original key numbers and owner's manual supplement detailing all specifications of the 327 engine. The power windows work and all other lights, etc. are working. The exhaust system has been recently replaced. The owner had a $1500.00 stereo installed a number of years ago with an equalizer and a number of high quality MB Quart speakers. I took this vehicle for a ride after taking the photos and covered about 10 miles. The engine runs very well and the transmission shifts well with no slipping. The car handles good but the shocks are original and are getting a bit soft. The engine temperature stayed normal. The wheels are period correct Magnum 500 wheels and there are 5 wheels so that the spare is a match, Included are 3 of the 5 original wheels and all 4 of the original hubcaps. They have been stored well and are in excellent condition. One of the hubcaps has a small dent in the middle as shown in one of the photos. You will not find a nicer car in this type of original condition. I encourage potential buyers to arrange a vehicle inspection with a local garage or inspector of your choice. The vehicle is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. I have tried to accurately describe the car to the best of my knowledge, but want to
