I would stick with a carb, at least until you decide you really like the car and want to keep it. Fuel injection has its benefits however the amount of vehicle use vs cost should always be considered. The Quadra-jet carburetor that was used on the Avanti is a great carb when set up right as Ernie mentioned. Their spreadbore design offers excellent low end response and wide open throttle punch. I have owned many GM products with the Q-jet and they have been very reliable. The problem with carburetors is that in recent years, it has been hard to find anyone that knows how to fix and adjust them. Due to this shortage of skills, many of the carbs out there are out of whack, perform poorly and are thought of as being "unreliable". My opinions are biased towards carburetors due to cost because I often get tired of my cars after a few years and eventually sell them. Therefore, I am careful not to stray too far from stock and add expensive modifications. The other carburetor I like is the Carter AFB. I have this carb on my '64 Riviera which is what the car came with originally. I have owned the car since 1981 and rebuilt the carburetor only twice. (I never get tired of this car) The AFB is never a problem, and with easy to adjust metering rods. In fact, a close friend of mine that used to be a partner in Hollywood Carburetor and Electric back in the late 60s said that back then, if all cars had come with Carter AFBs, they would had very few carburetor repairs. Edelbrock purchased the rights for the AFB and makes a good copy. Paul Katson 63R2569
