What are the correct shock absorbers for an 87 HO coupe? Mine has Monroe Gasomatics in place of the originals. Were the shocks the same on the standard and HO cars? ---------------------------------- What brand of shocks were on 87 HO coupes? Were the HO shocks different from the standard chassis models? The Koni web site specifies the same shock for the Avanti as it does for the same year Monte Carlo, and the same shock for standard and SS cars. Edelbrock has a new inertia valve shock that is supposed to be softer on sudden shocks i.e. bumps, and firmer on progressive movement i.e. body roll. Billstein and Koni brag about superior engineering. Does anyone have experience and opinions on the three? PCKing ---------------------------------- Our 1987 Kelly coupe stock shocks were not identifiable when they were replaced. Painted black. The front springs had factory cut down coils that did not seat properly. We replaced the suspension with Bell 2" dropped spindels and a stage 3 kit from Rancho Suspension in CA. designrd for the GM "G" frame ( Monti, Cutlass,Grand National Buick etc.) The fromt and rear anti-sway bars are much heavier than stock with polyunathane bushings and Rancho shock absorbers all around. The Rancho coil springs are wound tighter and thicker for a higher lbs. rating and stiffer ride without body lean in the corners. We can tell you that our Avanti rides like a "truck" but corners as if on rails. We recently changed the rear springs to 400 lbs. each with GN Buick parts from Poston Enterprises out of Alabama. It has a progressive spring rate , meaning the 1st several coils are wound loose for a softer ride and progressively wind tighter so they get stiffer as load is applied. We have raced the Avanti in Autocross and beat any 1987 Corvette ! --------------------------------------
