////////////any idea what type of GM cable utilized in the accelerator pedal to the Rochester Quadra-Jet carburetor for a 1982 Avanti II?/////// ===================================================== '82 Avanti II -- the cable WAS from a 1978 V-8 Chevrolet "Impala/Caprice" -- just don't order one from GM, (as) their replacement cables for that model have been altered, and won't FIT! What the "lil' dickens" in the GM parts department have done was to take the cable and attach the "barrel" connection to the original connections of the early GM fuel injection units -- the Rochester Quadra-Jet carb requires an "eye" connection on the 20" cable -- if you cut off the barrel connection and replace it with the "eye" connection, now the cable's about a quarter-inch too short! Also the bracket connections don't line up with the original "barrel connection" cable, and are even worse when you try to modify the connection and end up with a "too short cable"! Tom warned me that I should look, also, for a Corvette cable 1978-80 -- my local Chevrolet/GM parts manager thinks that GM tried to make one part fit two, or more, GM cars to reduce parts inventory. He thinks it's that Corvette cable that was also marked for use with the full-size Chevrolets -- not if they have a Rochester Quadra-Jet it won't! ======================================================= I re used the original housing and installed a new inner cable by sacrificing one from NAPA from a 82" Monte Carlo. I cut the end off at the pedal bellcrank, removed the cable, cut the new one to length, and used a choke cable lock from Napa. A cable lock is also available from bicycle shops for the brake cables.
