1980 Avanti II sport coupe, VIN RQB3058, one of the low production
continuation series based on the original 1963-4 Studebaker Avanti
designed by Raymond Loewy Associates. Only 147 were produced in 1980.
Powered by a 350 cid V8 (common to base Corvette of same year) and
3-speed auto sourced from GM, this car was built in the former
Studebaker factory by the dealer-owned company that bought the rights
to the car from Studebaker. This example has factory options including
glass sunroof, Recaro leather bucket seats, Borrani wire wheels and
trunk-mounted luggage rack.
Recent work includes new whitewall radial tires, battery, brakes, rear
shock absorbers and windshield. The AC compressor was also replaced and
the updated system blows cold. The odometer reads 39,500 miles,
although the true mileage is unknown. This car has not been restored
and it needs some attention, although it does drive well for its age.
The body (which is fiberglass) and frame appear to be in good
condition, however, the steel rocker panel reinforcement channels need
to be replaced (commonly known as "hog troughs," they are prone to
rusting out on these cars).
The price includes Avanti service and parts manuals as well as the
original owner's manual. $11,900. Call Dan at 860-526-3189 between 4
and 9 pm (or leave a message for a call back).
