15,000 NO RESERVE!, Low Miles, Rare Car Vehicle Description 1964 Studebaker Avanti. This car built almost at end of Studebaker Avanti production. No Reserve! Over $30,000 invested in last 6 months in car and mechanical upgrades. Minimum bid of 15,000.00 takes it in nine days, if you want to buy it now before the auction is up, 17,500.00 buy it now bid takes it. I know Avanti's and this is a unique opportunity to buy one at this price that has been updated this extensively. My loss is certainly someone's gain. Unique history as this is a Factory R2 Supercharged car which was changed to an air conditioned car at the dealership in 1963 (J & B Motors, Turlock CA) by mechanic Milt Peterson (still living and twisting wrenches on Studes) with an Air Conditioning kit from Studebaker. Yes, it has the cooling tubes for the shifter and Air Conditioning! Factory A/C cars do not have the cooling tubes running to the shifter. Probably the only R2 car dealer switched to AC when new. You cannot tell it did not come from factory this way. The last of only two Avanti's sold by the dealership in 1963. I have the letter from mechanic (Milt Peterson) who did the conversion authenticating changeover to AC in 1963. Car was sold new to Bakersfield couple who wanted the air installed because of desert heat, anyone who lives out here knows the wisdom in that decision! The dealership could not order an factory A/C car for them as Production had already been shut down at South Bend on Avanti’s, so it was converted to make the sale. Workshop manual, parts book, documentation and all correct glove compartment manuals including the one for the AM/FM radio are inside original factory plastic sleeve. Body #4269, Serial #5346. Factory AM/FM, 3:54 Twin Traction, Seat Belts, Sun Band, Power Steering. Over $30,000 invested in this car. California car, NO RUST OUT ON HOG TROUGHS!! No rust anywhere for that matter. Car is (was) in Palm Springs, CA but I register it with my Wisconsin address. 68,000 miles is original as far as we know. New dash, original glass headlight covers. Sheepskin seat covers installed as it gets hot here in the desert. Interior not rotted or torn, in good condition. All gauges work except the clock. Complete new exhaust with two-chamber mufflers & Stainless tips. Turquoise with Turquoise interior, Turquoise carpet installed as I think it looks better than the black that came in all later cars. Original R2 dual point distributor and heads never changed. Correct original serial numbered (matches build sheet) R2 engine is in car, just no Supercharger. Carb was changed in 1963 to R1 engine type to accommodate better jetting. Air is ice cold. Rims are the Fenton Ram Rods that were on my fathers Avanti. They are as close to mint as you can get. They were put on his car in 1965 and have less than 5000 miles on them! All new heavy-duty suspension installed including springs, sway bars, and shocks. Everything updated as I was planning to drive for the next ten years. I have a new job that requires me to drive over 20,000 miles per year. I will not do that to the car as with it being one of just over 700 square headlight trim 64 Avanti's built it is just too darn rare to take the chance of an accident. (How many are left?) So I must sell it. I did drive it from Wisconsin to Palm Springs in two days with no problems. You could get in it and drive it to the East Coast with confidence. How many are left in this condition out of the just over 700 built? Build Sheet, Line Sheet included for documentation of all numbers and options. Over $3,000 of Avanti R3 under hood aluminum & Factory cast iron headers, Aluminum intake, Aluminum Lifter cover, Aluminum Valve Covers, Aluminum Air Box, Aluminum Water Cross-over, complete ignition shielding, Seven Blade cooling fan and so much more. There is way more to list that has been done to the car in the last six months than what I can list here so if you're interested please contact me for more info. The car needs very minor paint touch up as the paint job is over 20 years old but is overall very nice. No engine leaks. New rebuilt trans., Stainless Brakes, Dual Master Cly. Conversion, the list goes on and on and on. It would take you at least $30,000+ to duplicate this car. This car is not a piece of junk. My father has a 19631/2 Avanti with 20,000 one-owner miles on it that still smells new inside. (No, it's not for sale, don't ask) This one is not that nice but probably one of the nicest / safest / tightest drivers you will ever find. Don't miss the chance to own this car as not many 64's come up for sale that have had this much mechanical update work done to them, (write me to find out what has been done). Much rarer than most Corvettes of the same era and drives nicer too, I know, I have driven both. In my opinion as driver of both Corvettes and Avanti's the 64 Avanti is a much nicer car to drive daily than a 1963 or 1964 Corvette, and how many 64 Avanti's are left compared to the mass production Corvettes?. Someone has asked if it has the vanity mirror in the glove compartment, of course it does! Even with no supercharger it will still out accelerate my fathers R1 with 3:31 gearing!
