The car is a great candidate for restoration, and it will require a complete restoration. The engine runs on a separate fuel supply, and it will move forward and back, however, it won’t stop because the brakes are bad. You’ll need a trailer and a winch to pick the car up. You can see the youtube video of the engine running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_akGAknNhGk The engine has good oil pressure, the alternator charges, the tachometer works, and the headlights / taillights work, too. The wipers tried but failed to work. The fiberglass is in excellent condition, and it appears to still have mostly original paint, which is quite weathered. There is one crack on top of the front left fender, and a small area that looks like it was repaired near the right front parking light. All of the body glass – which was tinted glass from the factory- is in good shape, with no cracks. The headlight lenses are good, too. The car sat for many years in an underground parking garage near the ocean – and, therefore, it has rust and corrosion on most of the exterior metal trim, such as the bumpers, window trim, gas flap door, glass trim, vent window trim, doorhandles, heater vent grille on the cowl, headlight rings, and other things. Most if not all of the exterior trim should be replated, or replaced. The good part is that all that stuff is readily available from the various Studebaker parts suppliers. These are easy cars to find parts for ! The interior looks mostly original – the dash pad has NO CRACKS – unusual for an Avanti, although it is discolored and should be died to match. The gauges and switch gear are in good shape. The seats have some splits and tears. The power windows do not work. I noted the “Rollbar” pad in the headliner is missing, but the patterned headliner stuff is present and in good shape. The steering wheel is an aftermarket item. The glovebox still has nice original lining, and the sliding tray and mirror are in good shape. The good part is that the frame and hog troughs, which are the sheetmetal rocker panel body supports, are nice and solid. They have only surface rust, but no through rust. I vigorously poked the hog troughs with a big screwdriver to make sure they are solid, and they are, indeed , solid. The big importance of that is, that you can restore this car without having to remove the body. It includes the spare, jack and lugwrench. Overall, it would not be a difficult car to restore, and I’m offering it at a low price so you’ll have room to do the work and still be ok. This is a private party sale. It is sold AS-IS, with NO WARRANTY. I have a clear California Title. I’ll accept cash or maybe a bank wire, but no checks of any kind. The car is located in Anaheim, California. I’m happy to work with legitimate overseas buyers, and I can assist in getting the car shipped overseas at buyer expense. Contact me with any questions at 714-401-1047
