Ebay August 2007 If you're looking to rebuild your Studebaker V8 for your current car or project, look no further! What we have here is a 1964 Avanti R1 Engine coupled to a PowerShift Automatic Transmission. These were both rebuilt less than one thousand miles ago, per the previous owner. The engine and transmission were rebuilt and, shortly after that, the brakes failed on the car and it was in an accident damaging the entire left side of the car, both bumpers, and the hood. Looking at the car, it had suffered a bad repaint at some point in its life and the interior is completely in need of rehabilitation. This car has needs that far exceed the value of the car, which is a shame. I'd love to see it go back on the road again but I've not been able to find anyone willing to put the money, time and love into the project. This engine/transmission assembly is still in the chassis and can be heard running. When I got it home, I primed the oil pump, put fresh gas and battery in it and it instantly started and ran well with no smoke, rattles or noises. The PowerShift Transmission goes immediately and firmly into all gears and shifts well (I drove it around the farm without brakes... kinda scary but I did want to test the transmission). The carburetor will need rebuilt as the accelerator pump has shrunk due to age but the carb runs the engine well otherwise. The rear main seal also drips a bit, proabably due to its period of inactivity but is easy to replace while the engine is out of the car. The alternator and power steering pump are not included in this auction. Other than that, what you see is what you get. It will be complete from air cleaner to oil pan and fan to transmission tailshaft. The air cleaner, ignition shielding and correct R1 oil pan and harmonic balancer will all be in place. The chrome on the air cleaner and valve covers are not show but none of the pieces appear to be badly pitted either. This engine carries 50 PSI oil pressure at cold idle and about 20-25 PSI warm. When warm, at 2250 RPM it carries a solid 45-50 PSI as well. The vacuum at idle is 18-19 in/hg. This engine sounds solid, tight, and powerful. I would not hesitate at all to put it in my own car, if I was needing it. When you consider the amount of money required for machine shop time and parts to rebuild a V8 engine plus the $700-$1000 to rebuild a PowerShift transmission, this becomes a very good deal
