I don't have a clue about mechanical questions. I just liked driving the car.
That's it. Sorry.
I am happy to say, that contrary to innumerable emails,
there was no grease and or oil covering my serial number. Excuse my mistake on
the body number vs. the serial number. I have added a picture of the other number
for you all now. Thanks. Studee guys are the best.
It sure was a lot more fun and felt more safe than driving that 454 Corvette.
I have corrected the Vehicle ID. #. Thanks to those who pointed out my
mistake. Studee people are the best.
Body Type is SD.
Plate number is
PBU909. I believe that this is the original plate number. I never changed the
plate after I bought the car.
I can tell you that I have $32,000 worth of
money invested in this car.
There are new:
Ted Turner brakes. NO -- NOT
TED --- I meant to say Jim Turner Brakes. How embarrassing
Rebuilt Supercharger
New Wheels
Old Wheels
Manuals
New Battery
You can have all the
Studebaker little stuff that I have to go with it. There is stuff in the trunk
...I don't know what any of it is...but you get it whether you want it or not.
LOL. It's a girl thing. I also have those little booklets for Lark, Hawk etc,
including the one for ladies. There are some dash placques, and assorted other
stuff...stuff...stuff.
Original steering wheel had been replaced with a Nardi Torino.
INTERIOR is eggshell with black leather seats.
And lots of other new
mechanical stuff that I cannot address.
Divorce and the loss of my $400,000
inheritance and doll collection are forcing the sale of this car. The Attorneys
and my X husband want to be paid.
I am a former Pacific Southwest Zone
Coordinator for the National Club and co-founder and editor for the Santa Barbara
Chapter of S.D.C.
My X husband knew about the mechanical end, but he is not
cooperating with helping me market this car, in spite of the fact that he wants
the remaining equalizing payment. I am sorry, that I will not be able to answer
your questions.
I bought the car from a local Santa Barbara man who claimed
that he had bought the car from Andy Granatelli, who lives in the neighboring
town of Carpinteria. I have spoken with Mr. Granatelli about the car. His reply
was that he had so many Studebaker Avantis' over the years that he cannot remember
whether this particular car had been in his possession. He told me that all the
records from all the cars that he had gotten from the Studebaker Corporation
were lost to a fire. Hence, I cannot substantiate the claim of the man that I
bought the car from, however, when I bought the car back in the 1970s, I had
no reason to disbelieve the seller.
The car is currently Lincoln Gray, as
it was when I bought it. It is supposed to be Champagne. I had visions of
finishing the car, but as you just read, my situation has changed. When the
mechanic had the engine out, he painted the compartment the correct gold-tone
color.
There are some stress marks in the fiberglass. I had already gotten
an estimate to paint and fix the car. The estimate from one of Santa Barbara's
established and reputable body shop men quoted me $5,000 to finish up the car.
I am having a difficult time starting the car. It has a brand new battery. I have
just ordered a new ignition switch from Ed Reynolds, which is scheduled this
week to be installed. Hopefully that will solve the issue of hard start.
The
5,000 miles that I qouted is HIGH on the rebuilt engine. The original miles is
just over 65,000 miles.
Carpet needs replacing, I am not convinced that a repair would do it.
I recall a small crack in the dash.
