64V2488 Rehabilitation

25 - 26 May 2001

All the pieces fit. Using Grade 8 hardware to attach the accessories.

For peace of mind, the inside of the exposed channel was brushed and swabbed with 2 coats of POR-15. The paintbrush was a dishwashing brush pressed into some flexible copper tubing.

The plate was punched, drilled and the back painted with POR-15

The plate was fitted, centered and tackwelded on one end. Next, the holes were filled and once stabilized, the leaf spring plate removed and the holes underneath were welded, then the plate replaced and bolted.

Now the process is repeated on the rest of the sections. The frame has a slight 's' at this point, so 2 pieces were necessary.

Etching the plates with phosphoric acid before the POR-15 goes on.
