The pillar had sagged from all the years of no support, so these expanders are used to push things into place and then hold them fast while the welding goes on....
Connecting the new channel with the old floor to keep things even.. When the door is opened/closed, the entire pillar moves in and out, up and down with all the stress from the weight. Everything has to be adjusted tight and held before final welding...
Welded up the bottom of the pillar front. New 16 gauge piece inside.. Not too pretty, but it works...
Here's what it looks like underneath. All pieces have to be screwed together to get the logical fit. This must have been done a thousand times to get it to the point where it's acceptable.
The floor piece has been trimmed to almost perfection. Mostly overlap, but some butt joints to assure a smooth floor.
