The cardboard was used to scribe the pattern on the sheet metal, 18 gauge in this case With the metal now cut, the fit is made by grinding the edges
Took about an hour to get this one right Compare the piece when we began, below
I made a template out of a couple index cards and transferred the size to a piece of heavy cardboard
